Win streak ends as Clippers succumb to Boston Three Party
The Celtics unleashed a second-quarter barrage that wobbled the Clippers before Boston ultimately finished the job.
It was always going to be an uphill battle for the LA Clippers on Monday night as they went into Boston on the second night of a back-to-back to play the defending champs.
The Celtics also played Sunday night, but they weren’t required to travel following their win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, and they were returning the services of standout center Kristaps Porzingis.
Still missing Norman Powell and Kawhi Leonard, the Clippers were game early on before they were hit with a second-quarter haymaker en route to a 126-94 defeat that ended the team’s five-game winning streak and dropped them to 11-8.
Boston made 12 3s in the second quarter and scored 51 points, tying the record for the most points allowed by the Clippers in any quarter as a franchise.
The Clippers trailed by 29 at halftime and did trim the deficit down to 15 in the third quarter, but Boston once again rallied from deep and closed the door on a potential comeback as the Celtics made 22 triples overall.
