Powell's return lifts Clippers over Nuggets as Harden scores 39 to outpace Jokic
The Clippers returned to their Norm with a win over Denver.
INGLEWOOD, Calif. -- Guard Norman Powell returned to the lineup for the LA Clippers on Sunday night after missing the team’s previous six games, dropping 28 points in 25 minutes as the Clippers upended the Denver Nuggets 126-122.
Powell was aided by fellow backcourt mate James Harden who scored 39 points and played the entire second half en route to the win. Harden added 11 assists and 9 rebounds to his ledger as the Clippers moved to 13-9.
“He’s leading by example, playing every day, practicing every day,” said Clippers coach Tyronn Lue of Harden after the win. “He hasn’t shot the ball like he’s accustomed to shooting, but that’s coming along the last four or five games. Leading this team, this young team, we have a lot of young guys playing, and just putting guys in spots, trusting these guys, giving these guys confidence. He’s been great for us.”
Harden and Powell combined for 25 of the team’s 33 points in the third quarter as they helped turn a 10-point deficit in the frame into a 2-point lead heading to the fourth.
