OCEANSIDE, Calif. -- You can understand why it might take Kai Jones longer to get his timing and confidence down. Being out of basketball for the better part of a full season can do that to you.

Tuesday night at the brand new Frontwave Arena in Oceanside, California, Jones showed just how far he’s come—even across two halves of basketball.

The LA Clippers defeated the Brooklyn Nets, 115-106, improving their preseason record to 1-1. But it was a helpful halftime chat from Clippers coach Tyronn Lue that put Jones in the right mindset to succeed.

“Even today, at halftime, I like how [Lue] pulled me aside and was just like, ‘I’m not worried about your mistakes; just keep going, moving forward, and make the next best play and play hard and play faster,’” Jones told gathered media in a hallway scrum following the game.
