'Pay That Man': Amir Coffey deserves an extension
The forward is posting career highs in scoring and three-point shooting.
INGLEWOOD, Calif. -- Perhaps no player embodies and personifies the overarching mantra of the LA Clippers in the time of Tyronn Lue and Lawrence Frank—hard-working, tough, gritty, etc.—more than Amir Coffey.
Coffey, 27, is entering his athletic prime, and the Hopkins, Minn., native is enjoying the fruits of an increased role on a Clippers team that, at least to outsiders, has exceeded expectations as they presently sit 27-20 and sixth in the Western Conference.
“It’s amazing,” a smiling Coffey told Russo Writes in an exclusive interview when asked how it feels going into each game knowing what his role and minutes will look like, a deviation from his previous five years with the Clippers where he was used more sporadically.
But, now, Coffey is the sixth man of the Clippers; the trusted number-one option off the bench who can come in and play his role with aplomb.
